Throughout the spring and summer wasp queen in the nest lays thousands of eggs that all turn into infertile females - wasp workers but in the autumn the wasp queen starts producing different types of eggs that develop into male wasps – drones and fertile females – new queens. These can count up to a few hundreds in number. While the wasp workers and drones all die off for the winter the old as well as all the new wasp queens overwinter to start building new wasp nests in the next spring. If a wasp nest is left untreated there is a high probability that more new wasp nests will be started by the new wasp queens in and around the same area the following year.
